Which is a bit ironic.
And not in the Alanis Morissette meaning of the word. Because, well, I don't think she even understood the meaning of the word. Like, hi. It's NOT ironic when it rains on your wedding day. It's just crappy. And the good advice you just didn't take? Well, come on! How were you supposed to know it was good advice at the time? Too much pressure. But you can't really blame her. Her ex married Scarlett Johansen. If that happened to me, I'm pretty sure I would have lifelong iss-ews and need plenty of tiss-ews.
So. I'm talking about the real sense of the meaning. I think. Because the beauty industry was one of the many things I used to write about in my journalism days. After 4(ish) years, I started running out of different ways to describe a pedicure or a face cream. I loved the perks. And I loved being the first to know about it stuff. But when a new challenge presented itself, I went for it. It was about that time that I made the transition from journalism to advertising.
Which leads to my next piece of ironic news. One of the first accounts I worked on in my budding advertising career was L'Oreal Paris. Then I became one of the lead creatives on Maybelline New York. And I made this here Mineral Power Website. Which was incredibly complicated and involved a fancy camera and lots of 3D and green screen stuff. True story. Later on, I dabbled in some Garnier and even some Lancome.
It would seem that I can't quite escape the beauty world.
IT'S BECAUSE IT'S A SIGN.
Of what? I don't know. That I should be beautiful?
For realsies though, I guess because my budget is not quite what is used to be post home-buying, buying shoes on a whim and new jeans is off limits. But a $19 eyeliner? ALLOWED. An $18 lip gloss? ALLOWED. A $32 nail polish? NOT REALLY ALLOWED. THAT'S WHY I DIDN'T BUY IT. And I get almost as much, if not equal pleasure from a new nail colour or a fun lip gloss as I used to get from a new pair of boots. So I'm going with that theory for now.
One of the blogs I frequent is Beauty Geeks.
Janine's posts are well-informed, friendly and honest. I think that's part of the reason I frequent her blog. She recently posted something about a lip gloss from Lise Watier. I loved the colour and then various other blogs started posting about the exact same product. Like, here. And, here. Everyone was raving about it in a non trying-to-sell-you-something kind of way but in a I-genuinely-like-this-product kind of way.
Obviously I had to have this item. So I bought it at lunch today. Here are the results.
Isn't the colour just divine?

Oh, here's another pose.

Aaaaaaand another.

"Who? Me? Oh! I had no idea you were taking a photograph!"

"Jussa second pleeeess. I nee a momen. I juss hafto haff a sipp."

You are a beauty geek.
Correct.
i'm glad to see someone else is able to find loopholes in their savings account diet. your loophole is beauty products. mine is itune espiodes and expensive groceries.
p.s. the colour is divine!
I thought, "hey, lemme pop over to SometimesIcing -- isn't that the greatest name? -- to see if there's something I can link to in a Weekend Reads," and what post do I see first? You are too kind. And hilarious. Great pics! That colour looks great on you (and don't tell anyone, but I wore it again today instead of trying a new shade).
Now I hafta go click on other links because words like "lead creative" make me curious.
Thanks so much for the shout out :-)
Hello again, in a non-stalker way. Must admit that Michelle's post made me go rooting immediately for that Lip Crayon so I could try it. I might have dismissed it otherwise; I'd recently tried another drugstore-brand lip crayon and been unimpressed (too sticky).
You made the Maybelline Mineral Power website? How totally cool.
A pleasure, Janine! Thanks for stopping by.
That lip color is just fantastic!
You're so right about it being hard to find different ways to talk about beauty products! (I always say that beauty is hard - but usually nobody believes me!)
Anyway, so happy to hear that our LW reco worked out for you. The colour looks great on you - love your poses!
PS - Very cool that you're the woman behind all those L'Oreal jobbies. I love the interwebz... such a small world!
Thanks for your comments, Michelle!
Your comments about Bachelorette made me howl and i course I had to start following you. Then i saw this post about my lovely pal Janine's blog. Love that you bought the product. Looks wicked on you! PS thanks for linking to my post about it. PPS Beauty IS hard. I've always meant to get a T-shirt with that on it.
